Aliya Seitova is a senior associate in Dentons’ Almaty office. A Kazakhstan Trademark and Patent Attorney, Aliya is one of only a few Eurasian-qualified patent attorneys in Kazakhstan who can register inventions and industrial designs at the regional level in the Eurasian Economic Union.
With 15 years of professional experience, Aliya focuses on intellectual property law, with a particular emphasis on supporting clients in filing trademarks and patents, trademark and patent infringement matters and related issues, such as unfair competition, customs records, renewal services and due diligence of intellectual property rights.
She has experience in representing clients before the local Trademark and Patent Office (Qazpatent) and courts and actively works on assignment, licensing, and franchising of companies’ exclusive rights. Aliya is known for her outside the box approaches to complex issues. Clients appreciate her creativity as well as her clear and prompt advice. She is also the author of a manual that assists judges in Kazakhstan in rendering judgments in intellectual property cases. Aliya has also advised clients in data protection and advertising issues, as well as on mass media regulation (including registration of foreign TV channels in Kazakhstan) and IT, AI related questions.

- Kcell: Representing the client in a major dispute against a collecting society, challenging a US$2 million IP claim.
- A well-known Kazakh modern artist: Supporting the art project of Ms. Saule Suleimenova, whose project aims to raise funds and bring awareness to various problems of the Kandas. The mandate included providing legal assistance to Ms. Suleimenova on copyright and licensing issues.
- American Bar Association: Preparing the Decision Writing Manual on Intellectual Property Disputes, published by the ABA Rule of Law Initiative program. The Manual assists judges in the Republic of Kazakhstan with analyses of intellectual property disputes, information about the legal status of cases and their peculiarities and recommendations for drafting court decisions.
- A worldwide leader in the energy drinks sector: Representing the client’s interests before customs and trademark offices and courts in Kazakhstan and the CIS.
- A European luxury retail brand: Advising on copyright and licensing issues, as well as on issues of relations with authorship societies in Kazakhstan and various data privacy issues.

- A major Chinese telecom and IT company: Advising on customs recordkeeping for IP objects in Kazakhstan as well as on parallel (grey) imports.
- A major Japanese automobile producer: Advising on the commercial use of drivers’ biometric data.
